Review: Gritty and compulsive

First of all I want to start by saying how intriguing the cover is, it really drew me in, I wanted to know more.

WITHOUT RULES is a hard hitting, non stop action packed, thriller, it is dark and graphic and does contain child abuse, which some readers might find  sensitive.

However it is a very gripping read, and you can’t help needing to read on to find out what will happen next.

I really enjoyed WITHOUT RULES once I got into the story. It did take me while to settle into the flow, as at times the writing was disjointed, and there is a fair amount of characters, I had to back track a little. But don’t let that put you off as the plot is gritty and compulsive.

I think the blurb pretty much sums up what this suspenseful book is about and I don’t want to potentially give anything away.

But what I will say is the characters are all deeply flawed, not particularly likeable. But that’s the whole point! You’re not supposed to like them, and Andrew has evoked those emotions towards the characters perfectly.

The pace is non stop action, it does require a little concentration (I made use of highlighting on kindle) but as the story progresses the plot just falls into place nicely.

I really enjoy books that sometimes push me out of my comfort zone and make me feel on edge. Andrew has done a fantastic job at bringing uncomfortable and difficult subjects to the surface and making them hard hitting. Of course this isn’t for everyone, there is violence, bad language, child abuse and sex.

Overall a compulsive, dark, gritty read that had me turning the pages.

If you enjoy dark crime thrillers, full of suspense, flawed characters and a powerfully hard hitting plot then you will want to pick up a copy of WITHOUT RULES by Andrew Field.
